I steered clear of green drinks until recently; maybe you have too. After all, smoothies shouldn’t be green, and even if we do get past the color mishap, they taste bad, right? After having Tropical Smoothie Cafe’s Detox Island Green, I found out how wrong I was. I now blend my own green drinks several times per week! If you’re still holding out on the green drink trend, here’s why you should dare to drink green too:
1. Boosts Your Cool
People who are willing to step out of their comfort zone to better their health are admirable.
2. Easy Antioxidants, Vitamins, and Minerals
You could chew piles and piles of spinach and kale all day to supercharge your health and ward off disease, or you could blend up a few handfuls with ice and your favorite fruits and achieve the same effect.
3. Tastes So Fresh
Hydrating green drinks are some of the most refreshing beverages you will find, especially if they have a kick of ginger or citrus juice.
4. Inspires a Ripple Effect
Green drinks make me feel fit and think of myself as a healthy person. This mindset encourages me to stay engaged in making healthy choices all day long.
5. Green is Lean
All-fruit smoothies are generally higher on the glycemic index–meaning they cause spikes in blood sugar, which can lead to stored body fat–than drinks that are loaded with veggies. Spice up your smoothie with naturally low-sugar, low-calorie ingredients like celery, spinach, kale, and cucumber.
6. That Fiber, Though
Fiber keeps your digestive system working the way it should by moving waste efficiently through your body. This promotes bowel health and helps you maintain a healthy weight. Yay!
7. Saves Some Green
Buying a green drink every day is not affordable, but making one yourself is! A little bit of produce goes a long way.
When you start blending your own green drinks at home, my advice to you is this: 1) Use more ice than you think. 2) Mix it up! You don’t have to follow a strict recipe to make a great green drink. Add a couple handfuls of green veggies and a small amount of fruit for sweetness, and voilà! 3) Squeeze in some lemon or lime juice for a yummy, tart punch!
Check out my first green smoothie making attempt HERE. It helps to push the produce down with a spoon halfway through blending…also kindly disregard my crappy British accent and makeshift blender lid.
Thanks for still climbing with me, even after I shared that video!
